Special Olympics Quebec’s Healthy Community program received an Emergent Award last Thursday. This Prix Hippocrate recognizes the program’s adapted, inclusive, and cross-cutting approach to health for the most vulnerable and marginalized populations.
Under the leadership of Tristan Delmas, Healthy Community is an intervention model developed by Special Olympics that addresses the serious health disparities faced by people living with intellectual disabilities.
Several awards were presented at the Prix Hippocrate gala held at the St. James Theatre in Montreal on October 16, including the Emerging Award to Healthy Community. Since 2017, the clinics have conducted more than 10,000 assessments in five specialties (optometry, dentistry, podiatry, orthopedics, and overall health).
“This is a wonderful reward for all the work that has been done over the past several years,” said Francine Gendron, Executive Director of Special Olympics Quebec. “Tristan Delmas is constantly developing the health component of the organization and has been able to bring on board many partners, which has greatly contributed to the success of the Healthy Community clinics. Congratulations to Tristan and his excellent team.”
Founded in 2010, the Prix Hippocrates recognizes initiatives that create real value in the field of health. An unparalleled showcase for innovation, it aims to identify, support, and promote projects that tangibly improve the health of Quebecers, while strengthening collaboration between disciplines and different sectors of the community.
Special Olympics Québec would like to thank the UQTR Chair in Self-Determination and Disability, which supported the nomination for this award, as well as the universities, CEGEPs, private partners, and volunteers who work tirelessly at each event to provide quality health clinics for athletes. This award demonstrates how essential and vital the clinics offered by Communauté en santé are for people with autism or intellectual disabilities.
